Brief Course Description
This course explores international film history from 1989 to the present with a particular emphasis on the critical and industrial components of that history. Throughout the course, students develop an original research project consisting of an annotated bibliography and précis—their own historiographic work that engages with production, marketing, distribution, exhibition, and/or reception.

After a lesson on distinguishing primary vs. secondary sources, students pitch project topics and explain how they might begin to look for primary sources for each topic.
Following demonstrations of how to write successful bibliographic annotations, students are tasked with writing a detailed annotation according to checklists and guidance provided in this activity.
As a way of making students comfortable using the library, this exercise guides students through the process of finding call numbers, locating books in the stacks, and making unexpected discoveries of related sources.
